How would you change the original "Lost In Space"?

"Lost In Space" + "Forbidden Planet"

As seen in my avatar personal text... I would combine LIS with the 1956 "Forbidden Planet" movie universe. I guess the series title would be "Lost In The Forbidden Universe".
I would include the original Robinson family and Don West (and NO Dr. Smith!) - aboard a modified (larger) Atomic-Fission-Powered, 'light-speed-limited' (no hyperdrive) Jupiter 2, carrying the Chariot and an amphibious mini-submarine (the Proteus sub of "Fantastic Voyage" movie).
The reason I limit the Jupiter 2 to only light-speed is to justify the need for the freeze-tubes. If it could hyperdrive faster than light, then there would be no need for the life-sustaining freeze-tubes. The crew could be at their destination in only hours or days. And that leads to 'planet hopping', from one to another, to no end. And that is a poor emulation of "Star Trek". I leave that super fast speeds to the military ships. As for the colonizers... one livable un-pupolated alien planet is as good as another.
Other ship changes would include: 1) Adding Star Trek (TOS) Uhura 'Communication Station', Spock 'Science Station', and Scotty 'Engineering Station' to the J2 command deck. Maureen or Judy can handle the communications station; John works the science station for planet geology; Don works the engineering station when he is not in the pilots' seat. 2) Move most freezetubes to lower deck. Two remain on command deck for John & Don. 3) Convert the Auxilary Control to a Medical Aid bay. Include holographic diagnosis bed as was seen in the LIS movie. 4) Include a Matter-Manipulator Lab to provide them with all the small tools and food they need for survival on any alien planet. 5) Add an "Andromeda" hologram ship computer system. 6) Equip the Jupiter 2 (and all other colonizer ships) with a time-travel missile that can be fired at an empty alien planet, and it will seed that planet with Earth DNA - billions of years in it's past history. Thus yeilding a human-compatable 'evolved' eco-system on that planet in contemporary time. 7) Equip the Jupiter 2 with geo-stationary satellites to deploy in planet orbit before landing. They can provide the landed Jupiter 2 basecamp with ongoing planet surface and weather system scanning, deep-space scanning, and plane-wide communications relay. 8) I would probably also include wormhole-portal technology into the Jupiter 2 & Proteus mini-sub airlocks, and portal kits to assemble at frequently visited distant locations (up to 1,000 mile range). For convience and emergencies. It provides a function similar to Star Trek's 'Transporter', but is limited to requiring a destination portal being present; similar to "Stargate SG1". 9) Upgrade the Jupiter 2's radio to Star Trek's 'Sub-Space Communications'. But limit it's range to 10 light-years. 10) The crew would use Star Trek communicators, and tri-corder.
I would make Judy a marine biologist, frequently exploring the alien seas of the Priplanus planet, by sub and by scuba diving. Don can join her in these activities too. A cool way to see her in a bikini! I would choose the Radioactive-Isotope-Powered Robby robot as the 'standard issue' labor robot for all spacecraft. But the B9 robot can be built by Will as a hobby creation. The Jupiter 2 would never leave Priplanus. Priplanus would never be visited by stupid aliens. The planet would contain underground (and undersea) relics of the Krell civilization from Altair-4, for the Robinsons to continually explore. The planet would also be home of native dinosaurs and spirits.
Elsewhere in the outerspace, there would be the United Planets spacefleet of Atomic-Fusion-Powered, hyper-light-speed hyperdrive C-57-E (upgraded C-57-D) military saucers on patrol of human colonized planets (like Alpha Centauri). They would be on continous lookout for the Jupiter 2 (and other early colonizing saucers that were also lost in their missions). These C-57-E ships would contain their own Robby labor & security robots, in addition to their human crews. The upgrades of the C-57-E's from the former C-57-D's would include: 1) Replace old command deck with bridge of Star Trek Enterprise (TOS), and substitute LIS J2 'Caged Elevator' for Enterprise 'Turbo-Lift'. And re-distribute the 'DC Stations' around the deck. 2) Replace the original 'Tractor' with an armoured track-based ATV with weapons. 3) Include wormhole-portal technology in the ship's airlock and carry extra portal kits to assemble at remote locations (up to 1,000 mile range).
If the Jupiter 2 is ever found by any of the United Planets spacefleet cruisers, the Robinson's would choose to remain as first colonizers on their Priplanus planet. To be joined by others later.
